Swedish Massage is a deep massage designed to help relieve pain and ease muscle tension, leaving you feeling totally relaxed.
What does Swedish Massage Involve?
This type of massage involves five different movements, which are:
- Effleurage is a gliding movement which helps to distribute oil and is good for relaxation
- Petrissage are different movements to knead, roll, pluck and squeeze the skin in lifting movements.
- Tapotement movements include cupping, hacking, pounding, tapping, beating and knuckling movements which stimulates the skin and improves muscle tone.
- Frictions are used in a slow deep way by using circular movements with finger pads for muscle relaxation.
- Vibrations are another way to relieve tension, and are used by the therapist on a nerve centre.
